BRIT Awards 2017

The BRIT Awards; an annual show where music lovers come together to celebrate triumphs within the industry, from hit number ones to legends being recognised. A night full of performance, tributes, laughter and tears, it really was an affair not to be missed.

From Katy Perry to Emeli Sandé, Ed Sheeran to Robbie Williams and many more, Wednesday's BRIT Awards showcased the very best talent. There were so many highlights of the performances that it's difficult to choose a personal favourite. Although, I'm a huge fan of Robbie's and he always owns the stage. I wasn't too sure what was going on with the houses during Katy Perry's performance but the song is a huge tune, with her controversial skeletons being a genius addition to her set. Ed Sheeran's music has really grown on me recently, Shape of You being a particular favourite and although I'm not a fan of Stormzy, the unlikely collaboration worked well. Bruno Mars brought energy and bling to the stage, as well as Little Mix kicking off the show with a bang. Despite almost half of it being muted, Skepta delivered an exuberant performance as well. The 1975's performance caused quite a stir, with many viewers believing the BRITs had been hacked with the graphics flashing up on screen slating the band. However, it transpires that the insults came from various critics over the years. After The 1975 claimed the BRIT award for Best British Group (see below for full list of winners), I thought it was an empowering touch to their performance. Emma Willis and Dermot O'Leary hosted which I was more than happy about. Both charasmatic presenters, they delivered plenty of personality to the O2 stage.

My favourite moment of the entire night was the touching tribute to the late and great George Michael. A fan of his work, I was gripped during Andrew Ridgeley, Pepsi, and Shirley's speech, recognising George's legacy and his previously hidden humanitarian efforts. There was utter silence from within the O2 and I'm sure I'm not the only one when I say that it really was heart-warming. This beautiful speech was followed by Chris Martin performing. I believe he did the song justice and he definitely looked moved at the end. We were also reminded of the great musical talent we lost in 2016, including other legends such as Prince, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen and sadly so many more.  But their music and work will live on for decades to come.

So that's the BRITs over for another year, I'm looking forward to what 2017 brings for the electric music industry.
